Amber Childrss is running for Alameda County Board of Education because she believes in responsible leadership and in supporting our schools and the students of Alameda County, especially in Oakland and Alameda.

Amber Childress was accepted into Mills College on a partial Scholarship where she studied economics and literature. She is currently pursing a Liberal Studies degree with a focus on business at Holy Names University.

Amber's experiences as a former OUSD student, a current parent of a high schooler in the district, a community advocate, an EmergeCA alum and as an marketing entrepreneur make her qualified to take on the role of Alameda County Board of Education Trustee. Amber believes her collaborative nature coupled with her work ethic will be effective in the continuous fight to bring more resources into our local public schools. She wants to see more support extended to all of the students across the County, especially those with the most need like the young people in the county's community court schools. The Board has a unique and important role with the Probation Department.

Amber has served as an active parent volunteer since her son started Kindergarten in Alameda 10 years ago. She spent time both inside and outside of the classroom helping educate students and assist tachers. She have spent 7+ years volunteering with Girls Inc. of Alameda County as a mentor, committee chair and a class volunteer. In 2014, she was fortunate enough to host a student intern through United Way / Linked Learning program. That student went on to nominated Amber for the 2014 Youth Friendly Business of the year award. That gesture made it clear that Amber is making a real impact on students.

In March 2016, Amber Childress was recongnized as a Powerful Women of the Bay award recipient. The community reconizes her dedication to improving conditions for the people around her. Amber is happy to serve her community in a variet of leadership capacities:

  • Appointed member of the OUSD Measure G Oversight Committee
  • Oakland Promise Champion
  • East Bay Women’s Network, Board of directors
  • OWH Tv Studios, Advisory Board
  • Wardrobe for Opportunity Chair of Studio WFO
  • Push Tech 2020 Summit , Public Relations team

Amber's dedication to rolling up her sleeves to serve the communities surrounding her makes her the right candidate to serve as the Alameda County Board of Education Trustee for Area 2 (East Oakland, Jack London, West Oakland, Alameda).
