My Top 3 Priorities

  • Finances: Pacific Grove needs a balanced budget in order to meet the level of services that the community needs. We need to responsibly increase revenues and apply the budget in ways that are consistent with our goals and values
  • Reliable sources of water will support the level of water use our community currently needs and allow us to find opportunities to add affordable housing within the community
  • Protecting and valuing our environment - forests, shore and bay - is a responsibilty for our entire community and the city needs to take a key role in caring for these treasured resources

Biography

My husband, Mark, and I have made PG our home for more than14 years. We chose PG as the best possible place to live, and my goal in running for City Council is to ensure that PG remains a wonderful place to live and to visit.

I currently serve as the President of the PG Public Library Foundation and I am a member of the Board of Point Lobos Foundation. Mark and I both serve as seasonal volunteers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

With master’s degrees in business and  social work, I have experience as a social services administrator, executive director of a business association and university faculty member at two business schools.  As an early-stage leader at a technology startup I have been part of growing a successful business.

As a facilitator and mediator, I work effectively with diverse perspectives and understand how to bring people together for a common purpose. I am well prepared to find the best solutions to the problems we face now and to address the issues we will face in the years to come.

Political Beliefs

Pacific Grove is a community where each person can make a difference by contributing time, effort and skills. We can accomplish far more by working together, respecting our differences and working to find common ground.

My education, training and commitment equip me to get things done, and get them done right through critical analysis, well-reasoned discussions and thoughtful decision-making.  I will bring people together to find the answers to our current issues and those yet to come.

By working together and developing our solutions collaboratively we can make PG even better.         I would appreciate your support and your vote.

Biography

Born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley, Nick developed a passion for public service and government early in life. At age 18, Nick moved to the Central Coast to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara where he earned a B.A., with honors, in Political Science. After earning his law degree at University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Nick served for seven years as a Deputy District Attorney in Santa Barbara County. As a prosecutor, he handled a variety of criminal matters, including domestic violence, sexual assault, theft and narcotics related crimes. Nick’s significant experience as a prosecutor provides him a unique ability to determine what is a just result for a given situation.

For the past three years, Nick has practiced civil litigation, helping local businesses and public entities on the Monterey Peninsula resolve conflicts and solve problems. Nick has successfully defended numerous lawsuits brought against both local businesses and public entities, including cities. He is currently an attorney with Lozano Smith, LLP in Monterey, a leading California public agency law firm. Nick's current practice in public agency law applies directly to service in local government and he intends to use his expertise in this area to help the City achieve its goals.

Nick moved to Pacific Grove in 2013 with his wife, Allison, who was raised on the Peninsula and attended Pacific Grove schools. They have three young daughters and are actively involved in the City's schools, programs, and special events. Nick was appointed by the City Council to the Planning Commission in 2014.

As a Planning Commissioner for the past two years, Nick has worked with his fellow commissioners to develop Pacific Grove’s planning and land use policy during a very active and complex period of long-range planning and zoning. Nick values greatly his time on the Planning Commission, which has provided excellent experience for the position he seeks on the City Council. Nick has always been a skilled problem-solver, communicator, and consensus-builder, able to work with others with varying perspectives to achieve goals. On the Planning Commission, Nick has used his legal training and problem-solving approach to address complex issues.

In addition to serving on the Planning Commission, Nick serves on the Board of Directors of the Monterey County Bar Association. He is a former Treasurer of that organization.

My Top 3 Priorities

  • I would be honored to serve as a voice for Pacific Grove’s families and seniors; our low income, fixed income, renters, and long term residents. My decisions will be in the best interest of our residents and preserve Pacific Grove.
  • Our city's guiding documents specifically confirm Pacific Grove is, first and foremost, "a City of Homes". As Councilwoman, I will govern by this position statement.
  • Neighborhoods are for neighbors. The increase in traffic, litter, and harming of wildlife are having negative impacts to our eco-system. There are many locals in need of housing, who would like to be permanent residents of Pacific Grove.
