California State University, Stanislaus B.A., Political Science (2008)

Steven Nascimento was elected to the Turlock City Council in 2012, and quickly became a leading voice for our community. He has been a champion for campaign finance reform, fiscal discipline and public safety.

A graduate of Turlock High School, Nascimento went on to earn a B.A. in Political Science from California State University, Stanislaus.

He has spent his career working closely with state, county and city leaders throughout the region to address issues affecting the Central Valley. Having previously served as the District Director for Congressman Dennis Cardoza and State Senator Anthony Cannella, Steven has a deep understanding of the legislative process and how decisions made in Washington and Sacramento impact our community.

Steven has also worked as a Planning Technician for the City of Modesto and the County of Merced. His professional planning background has made him a strong advocate for policies that encourage a vibrant and pedestrian friendly downtown, as well as safe and intelligently designed neighborhoods. Steven has been a leading voice for maintaining Turlock’s current growth boundaries, and a strong proponent of infill development.

The son of Portuguese immigrants, Nascimento currently serves as the Executive Director of the California Portuguese American Coalition, and as a member of the board for the Center for Portuguese Studies at California State University, Stanislaus. Steven also serves on the Turlock Salvation Army advisory board and is a former member of the City of Turlock’s Parks, Recreation and Community Commission where he led the effort to establish Turlock’s second dog park.

Steven is a lifelong resident of Turlock, where he lives with his wife, Alexis, and their two sons.  He is seeking to represent District 4, the neighborhood that he has lived in the past 13 years.
