My Top 3 Priorities

  • Continue to improve the academic achievement of all students
  • Support and expand our visual and performing arts programs
  • Maintain a tone of trust, respect, and commitment on the board and in the district

I currently serve on the school board for El Monte City School District, and I am excited about the progress we are making in our schools!

I appreciate the endorsement and support of our teachers association (EMETA) as well as Board President Jennifer Cobian, fellow board members Roberto “Bob” Cruz and Jessica Ancona, and other community leaders. Their support is an indication of a good working relationship, mutual respect, and belief that we are heading in the right direction!

Here are some of our accomplishments:

Rising academic achievement

State test scores show consistent academic growth.

New technology used by every student

We are nearly one-to-one with laptops available to every student and used throughout the school day.

Dual-language program

Our popular Spanish-English program brings together students who are fluent and new to the Spanish language. Students learn and work in both languages.

Expanded performing arts opportunities

Every student now receives music instruction with a music teacher at each school site. We have added musical theater programs as well!

Beautiful upgrades to school campuses

Libraries, updated classroom spaces, and a new cafeteria are among some of our recent facility upgrades.

California Distinguished School recognition

Cleminson School was recognized as a California Distinguished School in 2018.

I grew up in the district, attending Gidley School and Arroyo High School. My husband and parents are also proud products of our district. I teach as a math professor at Azusa Pacific University. As the parent of four children attending our schools, I experience first-hand the impact our programs have on students!

 My goals are:

- Roll out new strategic plan

- Improve academic outcomes among all students

- Develop the dual-language program to include Mandarin

- Expand city partnerships to make green spaces available to the neighborhood
