What do you think the State should do to encourage affordable housing for all Californians?
Respuesta de Mike Simpfenderfer:

Stop doing what we are doing because it does not work as the crisis gets worse. Cities/Counties hold the key. Re-zone the ever increasing inventory of retail/commercial locations for mixed use. Whether we build 6 or 60 or 600 homes per project, we need action. The builders, brokers, Habitat For Humanity need to all work together so cities are motivated to rezone. The homes need to be priced 10% or more below the median price of a home for that zip code. A set aside for low income housing needs to occur for that project. Builders need to offer these newly built homes for those who will live there during the first 30 to 60 days on the market so buyers have a chance. Down payment assistance programs need to be welcomed financing. Buyers need to agree to live there for five years or pay a penalty so we avoid flipping. All parties working together will all come out ahead and we will find more affordable homes built along with fewer empty buildings.

According to a "Civility In America” survey, 75% of Americans believe that the U.S. has a major civility problem. If you are elected what will do to address this?
Respuesta de Mike Simpfenderfer:

Civics class should become a class students do not muddle their way through. Active engagement is all students who are in civics class fulfill an assignment where they go to lunch...have a glass of iced tea...have an ice cream with someone politicially different and find 1 area of common interest with that person. Then both individuals or small group of individuals present what they discovered as a common interest. Attending a minimum number of city council and/or school board meetings needs to be a requirement for every high school student graduating high school. My treasured relationships are with those who are politically opposite of me yet we always find a common belief/interest. Going across the political aisle is not selling out your beliefs. It simply demonstrates real leadership which we need more of today.

Climate changes, and the shifting between very wet weather and drought, worry Californians. What strategies would allow that your district to both satisfy its water needs and protect the environment? Please be specific.
Respuesta de Mike Simpfenderfer:

Too often the proposed laws are hostile to businesses and jobs. We need to stop this as we are the poverty capital of America and employers are leaving in droves. We need to show the partnership of responsible employers who actually have solutions for less water use ..solutions for more solar use for the production of energy....design eye pleasing water friendly landscaping....replace energy inefficient appliances. The sales tax should get reduced for new appliance purchases that are above minimal energy efficient guidelines. This is win-win. Why do we allow tax credits for foreign manufactured solar panels when our focus should be tax credits for American manufactured solar panels? Many of our older homes with lower income seniors have toilets that are not water efficient. Cities/water boards have programs to replace these toilets yet our seniors lack the ability to get this physically accomplished. We need to mobilize young people partnered with our skilled trades people and replace these toilets....in droves. Something so simple yet we need the leadership to get this accomplished school district by school district city by city.

What programs or strategies would you suggest to meet the educational needs of the youngest and most poverty stricken Californians?
Respuesta de Mike Simpfenderfer:

We have so many jobs that do not require a college degree. We have numerous fields where a license is required from the State of California yet we do not need a college degree. We need employers from those fields to be actively involved with our high schools so our young adults see high school as a clear path to a good, well paying job. Crime ridden neighborhoods are a clear problem and a detriment for our children who want a good education. Police involvment in our schools keeping us safe needs to be a high priority. Our children need to hear the reality of drug use even if recreational from employers and law enforcement. Recreational drug use will eliminate numerous job opportunities yet our young adults do not know this. This is about leadership by example.

We are embarrassed enough by the politicians while we face serious problems in the 58th Assembly District. It is time for a change.

I commit to you, no more new taxes and it is time to repeal the gas tax.

People are leaving California in droves over high taxes; a lack of affordable housing; employers abandoning our state. It is time we stop this. It costs over $970 to rent a U Haul Bellflower to Las Vegas yet costs just over $100 Las Vegas to Bellflower.
