Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (1)

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools.  What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
Answer from Rimga Viskanta:

Communicating information effectively can be a challenge especially when parents are busy and already inundated with school and District information.  It is important to use multiple channels to engage parents in the manner they prefer.  Some methods currently used and which I would continue using are: communicating via social media posts; the website; flyers; parent forums; and attending PTA meetings at the various school sites.  The EUSD plan is readily available and I will do what I can to ensure parents and interested community members know that this is the case.

Questions from League of Women Voters of North County San Diego (1)

What is the most significant challenge facing the Encinitas Union School District, and if you are elected, what steps will you take to address it?
Answer from Rimga Viskanta:

I believe the District must ensure the sustainability of its various innovative programs.  Our students consistently rank at the top when comparing standardized test scores across the County and State.  But in addition to our classroom teachers who do a stellar job teaching the core curriculum, this year the District has committed support for the enrichment teachers at the nine school sites who were previously funded entirely by parent dollars.  All these programs do not replace the learning done in the child’s primary classroom, but the enrichment teachers and enrichment classes do add value to our students’ learning experience.  I want to make sure the District can continue to support the enrichment programs into the future.
