Community Activities

President of community organization representing 42 neighborhoods in Oside, Alliance of Citizens To Improve Oceanside Neighborhoods (ACTION) (2010–current)

For safety purposes, I spearheaded the efforts in my neighborhood, Jeffries Ranch to stop the closure of Jeffries Ranch Rd. In doing so, I met with many other concerned neighbors who were not being heard by our Council majority. We formed ACTION - An Alliance of Citizens To Improve Oceanside Neighborhoods. ACTION LED the defeat of Proposition E and F in 2012, saving the homes of our Seniors and Veterans in our mobile home communities! In addition, we help stop the Gregory Canyon Landfill, the puppy mills, the digital billboards, the outsourcing of our police and fire, and most recently we worked hard to get SOAR - Save Open Space and Agricultural Resources (now known as Measure Y) on the November ballot! SOAR has been proven to work in Napa and Ventura Counties, whereas the voters overwhelmingly renewed their SOAR Initaitives! We need responsible development in Oceanside. Integral- one of the largest developers in the United States wants to develop HIGH DENSITY housing in our ONLY AGRICULTURAL area. That land has been zoned a minimum of 2.5 acres per dwelling for 50 years. Why? Because it is farmland. ALL the property owners in South Morro Hills bought there because of the openspace and zoning regulations. We need to protect our farmland. That land is on the Important Farmland Act of America stating impart- South Morro Hills is one of few places in the world where you can grow crops year around. We need to protect that and the property rights of those farmers. I encourage everybody to vote YES on Measure Y! Otherwise, you are giving Oceanside to the out of town developers and we will ultimately be footing the bill. I fought against the raising of our water bills. (see my website) Folks have been diligent in reducing water and yet our Council majority voted to increase our water bills. Oceanside needs quality leadership and I have a proven record of supporting our neighborhoods and standing up for issues that ultimately impact all of us.

Questions & Answers

Questions from The League of Women Voters North County San Diego (3)

Do you support increasing the housing density in your district of Oceanside? What other options might there be for improving the City's supply of affordable housing?
Answer from Dana Corso:

I support our General Plan that accounts for our percent of affordable housing in a SMART development way - next

to infrastructure, public transportation, current water/sewer utilities, etc. WE also need to look at the criteria for

what is deemed "affordable" as it has outpaced the lowest income people that it was intended to support.

Do you approve of the City's current approach to addressing the problems of homelessness in Oceanside? What specific changes, if any, would you make?
Answer from Dana Corso:

WE need a 3 tier solution.

1. Address immediate issues to encourage help and support through the HOT (Homeless Outreach Team)

2. Create a consortium of key groups; Solutions for Change, Brother Bennos, NC Interfaith, Veterans of NC.

3. Work with neighboring cities (Vista, Carlsbad, San Diego and Orange Counties) on solutions versus just transferring back & forth.

Do you advocate any changes to the City's current policies regarding recreational and medical cannabis businesses? Please explain.
Answer from Dana Corso:

I support medical marijuana use as a viable alternative to other therapies and I also support the City receiving tax revenue to help pay for the City services and oversight to ensure it's a quality product with safe access. However, we must be very mindful of our young adults and future generations. Balance is the key and working with all of the key people to include our Police and Fire, teachers and youth support groups to ensure cannabis is implemented in a way that does not negatively impact our neighborhoods and children.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

As the President of ACTION - A non-partisan grass-roots community organization, I have never asked anyone their party affiliation. It doesn't matter. Oceanside's City Council is suppose to be non-partisan. It's not about the left side or the right side, it's about Oceanside! WE all need to work together to make Oceanside the best in can be. Oceanside needs quality leadership that puts the people and our neighborhoods first! I promise to do that.

Cannabis Issue — October 24, 2018 Channel 10 news

Oceanside has came a long way, in terms of aesthetics and character. We need to make certain we move forward in a positive and mindful way to protect our City and our younger generations. We need to include our police, fire and public safety officials in order to make the proper decisions in moving forward.
